On July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate its Semiquincentennial — the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is a historic milestone: a moment to reflect on our complex past, evaluate our present reality, and imagine our collective future.

This is not a traditional summary-of-facts history paper. This is a persuasive, reflective essay. You are expected to analyze American ideals, connect them to your perspective as a young person living in 2026, and defend your viewpoint using reasoning and historical context.

Hook your reader. Introduce the significance of the 250th anniversary and clearly state your thesis.
Body — The Past
Analyze an event, document, or foundational ideal from American history that directly connects to your thesis.

Format in MLA style: Times New Roman 12pt, double-spaced, 1-inch margins. Include your name, teacher's name, class, and date in the header block.
Join the classroom (first time only)
